A men’s guide to the new season
This coming autumn/winter season, the bold, rebellious edge that’s been bubbling up in menswear comes to maturity, offering us a sartorial treasure trove of jackets, knits and accessories that define the spirit of 2019. But how to make the key styles yours? Let us be your guide.

Looking for a trend that’s easy to wear yet makes an impact? Then think coordination. Head-to-toe colour ruled the runways at OFF-WHITE, Craig Green and Rick Owens (yes, even the master of monochrome has taken to colour). But what to do if you’re colour shy? Well, beige can be just as bold (no, really) – just be sure to mix up your textures, from shearling to cashmere knits, and think of a better-sounding term than beige. (Camel? Caramel? Café-au-lait? OK, perhaps we’ve gone too far…)

Used to pairing bold prints with a plain pair of jeans? Well, times are a-changing. This season, every layer counts – so pile on the pattern, we say. Sacai’s leopard layers and Facetasm’s roar-some lion-print trousers lead the animal-print trend into more casual territory, while for those with a more romantic side, Gucci’s oversized silk shirts are perfect for segueing into the new season.

Brighter. Bolder. Bigger. The puffer jacket has evolved from the stereotype of lost-tourist-in-London into a streetwear staple. Whether you go for utility styles with a futuristic edge (Moncler hits the mark here with its fresh new designs and designer collabs), or head to Fendi and Versace for Italianate allure – this is the season to invest in a puffer.

Fifty years on from Woodstock – a three-day festival of peace and music – and it feels like we’re once again in a time of people coming together to drive positive change, whether joining Extinction Rebellion or making a stand for human rights. No wonder, then, that designers are paying homage to the fashions of change makers past – from clashing tie-dye prints (Dries van Noten’s polished take on the trend gets our vote) to luxuriously crafted bohemian-style knits inspired by the power of traditional craftsmanship (note: Alanui’s seriously comfy cardigans) – and forging a more sustainable future for fashion.
Pad it out: the best puffers of the season
This editorial was shot at Yorkshire Scultpure Park – an amazing open-air gallery in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. We collaborate with Helen Pheby, Head of Curatorial Programme at YSP, to display a new work at our Art Block at Selfridges London every six months. Pieces range from new commissions to works borrowed from YSP’s collection, with the most recent being Marco Miehling’s ‘A Tree is a Big Plant with a Stick Up in the Middle’ and an accompanying video art piece.
The wild ones Using sun-drenched Mexico as our backdrop, we’re shifting to a new-season mindset that embraces all things rebellious, eclectic and free-spirited. With our tie-dyed T-shirts, shredded-up denim, breezy prairie dresses and dust-kicking cowboy boots packed up and ready to go, we’re well prepared for a blue-skied spring/summer 2019.

Granted, for some of us, the old rules still apply; but much like the fax machine, it’s all starting to feel a bit retro – especially since 2017 has ushered in a whole in-tray of top-notch office wear that’s sure to catch the boss’s attention (in a good way, of course). So sit back and slip on your out of office while we show you how dressing for your nine to five needn’t feel like hard work at all. 
Our buyers’ fashion week wardrobes If you hadn’t already noticed, it’s officially fashion month, people. So before our womenswear buyers jetted off on their oh-so-stylish travels, they gave us a sneak peek at the looks they’ll be wearing to the shows; the pieces that they've earmarked for their own personal stash – aka the crème de la crème of this season’s fashion bounty.
