product description
Description This vintage Breitling AVI 765 chronograph, super attractive with its original design, dates back to the 1960s and is associated with a great Italian actress. Breitling has been a leading manufacturer of aviation chronographs since the 1940s. The brand has earned the trust of military organizations thanks to the precision and robustness of its wrist chronographs. Presented in 1953, the AVI 765 with its all-black dial was the benchmark for pilot's watches at the time and is today a symbol of military chronographs from the 1950s. Among the most important identifying features of the AVI features the 15-minute counter, initially displayed in a small window, then in the classic subdial at 3 o'clock. In collector circles, it is believed that the reason for the 15 minute format is the 15 minute inspection of the plane before takeoff. Here we offer you a rare version of the AVI 765 chronograph with its very contrasting inverted panda dial, produced between 1962 and 1965. To highlight the exclusive 15-minute counter at 3 o'clock, Breitling decided to create the sub-register at 3 hours larger than the other two sub-registers: a design feature much appreciated by today's collectors. The version here with rotating steel bezel is very rare, as it was replaced by the version with black aluminum bezel already around 1965. The watch is accompanied by a stainless steel bracelet with an admirable vintage style. It wears very comfortably on the wrist and looks cool. From a historical perspective, the connections between famous actors, racing drivers or other public figures with certain vintage watches are always interesting. Among the most famous are Paul Newman, Nina Rindt, Jo Siffert and Steve McQueen. Less well known is the link between the Breitling AVI 765 and Raquel Welch, a true icon of pop culture and cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. The American actress wore a copy of the AVI 765 inverted panda with a steel bezel during filming from the British spy comedy Fathom in 1967 (see photo).
