The sensational Da Vinci collection from IWC was introduced in the 1980s with an extraordinary masterpiece, a calendar chronograph that does not require manual correction even in leap years. While the early models had round cases, the IWC Da Vinci presented here from the 2009 collection already has the tonneau case that became common later. The materials are just as noble as the high level of watchmaking skill would suggest: 18-carat, polished gold flatters a silver-colored dial. The IWC caliber 89800 has a digital display for the date, month and leap year. The chronograph is traditionally started, stopped and zeroed using the push buttons and the large, central second hand can also be found on many chronograph models. What is unusually practical, however, is that the chronograph minute and hour are displayed in a separate analogue dial at 12 o'clock. This makes it possible to read stopped times quickly and at a glance. A display back made of sapphire crystal allows a view of the complex movement with the partially skeletonized rotor. The modern, large case measures 44 x 52 mm with a lug width of 24 mm. In addition to the IWC watch box, the scope of delivery also includes the IWC warranty card and the IWC warranty service manual, so it is a full set.
